Summary[]
Charlie's funeral takes place, and Will decides not to give a eulogy. After the funeral, Will and Jim play a song (That's How I Got to Memphis) with Charlie's grandson, and Will says that he can be the person to talk to since Charlie died. A series of flashbacks to three years earlier, before the first episode of the show, reveal various events including Mac's influence on the "sorority girl" who asked Will a question at Northwestern, Charlie recruiting Mac to join News Night, and Charlie's influence on Will. Will finds out that Mac is pregnant just before Charlie's funeral, and decides to quit smoking. Mac is given Charlie's old job as the head of the news division for ACN, and Jim becomes EP of News Night. Maggie is offered an interview for a field producer job in DC, and she gets upset when she finds out Jim recommended her for the interview. When Jim becomes EP, he offers her the job of senior producer, but she turns it down for the field producer job. They agree to a long distance relationship, and Jim insists that it will work because he is in love with her. The episode closes with one last episode of New Night run by Mac as the EP.
