Staff Writer is a credit in television. It is a junior role for a screenwriter. They work full-time on a series. They assist the more senior writers in developing stories, researching ideas and with writing specific scene assignments while developing scripts for a series. Staff Writers contributions are also sometimes acknowledged with credits for writing specific episodes, most often as a "Story by" credit.
