Biography[]
Mike and Sheryl appear together on The News Night program and are interviewed by anchor Will McAvoy. Mike says that he became part of the Tea Party to take his country back from a Congress and President who have forgotten that a government derives its power from the governed. He states that the government is at the beck and call of corporations and special interest groups. ("The 112th Congress")
Will asks them if they consider the Tea Party a grass roots movement and they confirm that they do. Sheryl expands that their lack of centralized leadership confounds the media. Will then questions them about the Tea Party's massive financial support from the Koch brothers, owners of Koch Industries, the second largest corporation in the country. Will has Sheryl and Mike confirm that they attented the "Texas Defending the American Dream" Tea Party summit the previous summer. He then explains that the Koch brothers funded that event, and the majority of Tea Party operations, through their subsidiary Americans For Prosperity (AFP). Will reveals that the Koch brothers have donated $40,000,000 to the Tea Party and asks Mike and Cheryl if they consider the Koch brothers average Americans who have been drowned out by special interests and lobbyists. He deadpans that he is confounded. ("The 112th Congress")
